This week, the team at Official Made In Italy decamped to Rho Fiera Milano to join the biggest names on the international furniture, design and manufacturing scene for the 56th Annual Salone Del Mobile. The largest of its kind in the world and a must-see sectorial appointment, the fair consecutively reaffirms Milan’s status as a major capital of design.
This year’s fair saw the continued emergence of the Seventies-inspired refined glamour trend. The defining style was a retro throwback with a carefully curated luxury edge and a nod to cocktail party chic.
More traditional tones of black, white and grey were substituted with a backdrop of dark wood, earthy terracottas and deep flame orange. These were offset against a bold use of colour pops including primrose yellow, emerald green, sugar pink and duck egg blue – shades synonymous with the glamour of the Sixties and Seventies.
Retro references were not only restricted to colour palette as clean boxy lines were replaced with deep curves, asymmetric styles and gently inflated forms, shapes that were at the same time both playful and elegant. Rich textures and materials including sumptuous velvets and dark woods completed the look.
There was too a feeling of natures influence in this year’s design show and the idea of presenting interiors that blended harmoniously with traditionally exterior elements as brands showcased displays that left one feeling very much of the outdoors inside with rooms filled with plants trickling around the furniture and walls.
With so many beautiful ideas on show and such rich sources of inspiration, whatever you take from this year’s fair, one thing is for certain – be prepared to come away wanting to remodel your entire home!
